摘要: Introduction Studies examining acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in emergency department (EDs), particularly rural and remote areas, are rare. This study aimed to examine the burden of ARIs among Aboriginal non-Aboriginal children presenting Western Australian (WA) EDs from 2002 2012. Method Using a retrospective population-based cohort linking ED records birth perinatal records, we examined presentation rates for metropolitan, 469 589 births. We used diagnosis information categorise presentations into ARI groups calculated age-specific rates. Negative binomial regression was investigate association between risk factors frequency presentation. Results Overall, 26% were ARIs. For children, highest those aged Conclusion One four WA ARIs, representing significant out-of-hospital with some evidence geographical disparity. Planned linkages hospital discharge laboratory detection data will aid assessing sensitivity specificity diagnoses ED.
