摘要: Current definitions of habitat are closely allied to the concept patch and matrix. This is, for instance, central prevailing metapopulation models population dynamics. But, butterfly dynamics, mobility spatial structure can only properly be understood in context a resource-based definition habitats. In criticising current habitat, we illustrate how is best terms resource distributions. These transcend vegetation-based lie at root life history strategies, vulnerability butterflies environmental changes extinction, govern conservation status. We emphasise need resource-use database demonstrate shortcomings data conserving butterflies; based habitats inappropriate some species others do not provide universal panacea, inadequately explaining occurrence when scaled over space time. A challenges bipolar, vs. matrix view landscape; alternative landscape as continuum overlapping urge greater attention details behaviour use keys understanding exploited therefore successful scale.
