摘要: Abstract The edible red seaweed Eucheuma cottonii is abundantly cultivated for carrageenan production. This study investigated the effects of dietary E. polyphenol-rich extract (ECME) on breast cancer. In vitro assays showed that ECME was antiproliferative against oestrogen-dependent MCF-7 and oestrogen-independent MB-MDA-231 human breast-cancer cells (IC 50 values 20 42 μg/ml, respectively) but non-toxic to normal cell lines. (150 300 mg/kg BW) fed female rats and, after 4 weeks, rat mammary tumour induced using LA7 (inoculated subcutaneously). inhibited development erythrocyte lipid peroxidation in cancer-induced rats, dose-dependently. It anti-oestrogenic estrous cycle serum hormone levels. Electron microscopy histopathology observations confirmed apoptosis tumours. tumour-suppressive via induction, downregulating endogenous oestrogen biosynthesis, improving antioxidative status rats.
