摘要: BACKGROUND Patients with head and neck carcinoma (HNC) often face exhaustive debilitating treatment as well physical functional residual effects, such disfigurement, compromised speech, dry mouth, difficulties swallowing. Understanding how patients cope these challenges is important in comprehensive care of HNC. METHODS Seventy-nine HNC were assessed for quality life (QOL) coping strategy. Measures included the Functional Assessment Cancer Therapy-Head Neck, Performance Status Scale Head Neck Patients, Ways Coping-Cancer Version. Coping strategies summarized related to patient demographics QOL. RESULTS The results suggested that used a wide range strategies, social support seeking behaviors representing greatest proportion total effort (25%). The use avoidant (both cognitive behavioral escape) was associated poorer overall QOL. CONCLUSIONS Although further examination issues larger groups warranted, current findings suggest adaptability this group potential benefit support-based assistance or intervention. 2002;95:98–104. © 2002 American Society.
