The status of the invertebrate fauna on the South Atlantic island of St Helena: problems, analysis, and recommendations

摘要: We present an analysis of the invertebrates St Helena using invertebrate conservation evaluation framework, to review data, highlight knowledge gaps and prioritise needs that perhaps could be applied other regions world. Helena’s fauna has 891 genera 1133 species. The a high level endemism with 450 species (equal 96% all native species) but total richness now comprises many introduced (664) 93 in 24 orders are entirely novel Helena. elevation ranges appear narrow, most being confined higher elevations above 500 m. had large number probable extinction events; 30 insects, 19 molluscs, threat further extinctions remains high. cumulative on exceed global background rate island barely covering 122 km2. actions timelines focus Helena; taxonomy, ecology, long term monitoring invasive control priority areas reduce risk.
