摘要: Objectives : To evaluate the diagnostic validity of GeneXpert for detection Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in pericardial and pleural effusions samples. Methods A cross sectional study was conducted at Mycobacteriology Laboratory, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. total 286 (158 128 fluids) samples were received from (TB) suspects between January 2014 August 2016. Every sample processed Ziehl-Neelsen (Zn) smear, Lowenstein Jensen (LJ) culture, MTB/RIF assay according to standard protocols. Validity MTB evaluated using LJ culture as gold standard. Results Out samples, isolated by 51 (17.8%) followed 43 (15%), acid- fast bacilli (AFB)  detected Zn smear microscopy 11 (3.8%) showed high sensitivity (84.3%), specificity (100%), with positive predictive value and  negative (96.7%), while 18.3%, 99.1%, 81.8%, value  85.4%. strikingly 72.2% observed fluid GeneXpert. Conclusion is an innovative tool, prompt drug resistance. It definitely attractive point care test, along turn around time 2 hours, which facilitates timely diagnosis appropriate management TB pleuritis pericarditis.
