Sedimentary and Benthic Environment Characteristics in Macroalgal Habitats of the Intertidal Zone in Hampyeong Bay

摘要: To understand the characteristics of sedimentary and benthic environments in habitats naturally-occurring intertidal macroalgae, various geochemical parameters sediment (grain size, ignition loss [IL], chemical oxygen demand [COD], acid volatile sulfur [AVS]) pore water (temperature, salinity, pH, nutrients) were measured southern zone Hampyeong Bay at two month intervals from April to October 2009. Ecological including distribution biomass macroalgae also investigated. Benthic distributed below 4 5 m depth mean sea level near lower portion where air exposure time is relatively short. The area gradually decreased during study period. surface sediments algal region mainly composed finer sediments, such as slightly gravelly mud mud. temperature, nutrient concentrations (except dissolved inorganic nitrogen) did not differ regions with without whereas grain size IL, COD, AVS much higher harboring macroalgae. correlation between IL displayed distinct gradients slope was steeper indicating that content organic matter solely dependent on size. Our results indicate play an important role accumulation sediment.
