摘要: There exists a conceptual gap between the methods people naturally use to structure spatial relations and functionality of user interfaces for geographic information systems support these methods. Spatial cognitive may be inferred by eliciting subjects’ verbal description “real world”, everyday relations. The resulting collection natural language then used as realistic goal in GIS interface design process, especially query formulation. Furthermore, because many potential users are non-English speakers it is also helpful survey cross-cultural extent spatial-linguistic terminology; do so foreign subjects should tested their native environments. Verbal descriptions space empirically compared performance executing simple geographical analyses using GIS-like testing software, or directly theories cognition. It suggested that instead teaching perform better current technology, we more intuitive GISs studying way think about, describe, space. A summary such study, related pilot methodological template Spanish English-speakers each described here.
