摘要: Climate variability in the high-latitude Southern Hemisphere (SH) is dominated by SH annular mode, a large-scale pattern of characterized fluctuations strength circumpolar vortex. We present evidence that recent trends tropospheric circulation can be interpreted as bias toward high-index polarity this pattern, with stronger westerly flow encircling polar cap. It argued largest and most significant traced to lower stratospheric vortex, which are due largely photochemical ozone losses. During summer-fall season, trend has contributed substantially observed warming over Antarctic Peninsula Patagonia cooling eastern Antarctica plateau.
