摘要: Abstract Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an increasing problem for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). It has been associated clinical deterioration in some CF, creates additional infection control problems, and may affect acceptance onto transplant waiting lists. Recent attempts to eradicate the organism have met only moderate success. An understanding of those factors which increase risk acquisition MRSA by CF will aid development effective preventative strategies. We conducted a retrospective case-control study comparing variety 15 MRSA-positive 30 age-sex-matched MRSA-negative controls who attended Regional Paediatric or Adult Cystic Fibrosis Units Leeds. During year prior initial isolation, spent more days hospital (mean 19.8 versus 5.5 days, p =0.0003), received treatment oral ciprofloxacin (43.5 13.9 =0.03) oral/intravenous cephalosporins (42.7 15.4 =0.04) were likely be chronically infected Aspergillus fumigatus (40% 10%, than controls. There no significant differences observed parameters (clinical X-ray scores) between two groups. Minimising number length admissions judicious use antibiotics, particularly ciprofloxacin, should key components any strategies designed reduce CF.
