Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy in Patients 55 Years and Older: Results and Review of Literature

摘要: Introduction Over the years immune system suffers many morphologic and functional alterations, which result in a peak of function puberty gradual decrease elderly. Aim Treat patients 55 or older with allergic rhinitis immunotherapy then analyze response to allergens. Materials Methods From June 2009 July 2010, 104 charts complaints were evaluated. The selected by anamnesis, physical examination, otorhinolaryngologic exam. had cutaneous test for mites before after 1 year sublingual specific immunotherapy. was classified as negative (absent), light, moderate, severe. Results Before vaccination, 42 (40.4%) having severe form allergy 62 (59.6%) moderate allergy. After therapy, 40 (38.4%) 37 (35.6%) 19 (18.3%) 8 (7.7%) responses. Conclusion Immunotherapy, desensitization technique, is indicated cases cannot avoid exposure allergens situations where pharmacologic therapy not ideal. Specific treat elderly efficient no collateral effects, addition clinical benefit, improvement could also be observed.
