摘要: Objective To investigate the association between overeating (without loss of control) and binge eating (overeating with adverse outcomes. Design Prospective cohort study. Setting Adolescents young adults living throughout United States. Participants Sixteen thousand eight hundred eighty-two males females participating in Growing Up Today Study who were 9 to 15 years old at enrollment 1996. Main Exposure Overeating assessed via questionnaire every 12 24 months 1996 2005. Outcome Measures Risk becoming overweight or obese, starting drink frequently, use marijuana, other drugs, developing high levels depressive symptoms. Generalized estimating equations used estimate associations. All models controlled for age sex; additional covariates varied by outcome. Results Among this large adolescents adults, was more common among than males. In fully adjusted models, eating, but not overeating, associated incident overweight/obesity (odds ratio, 1.73; 95% CI, 1.11-2.69) onset symptoms 2.19; 1.40-3.45). Neither nor while both predicted marijuana drugs. Conclusions Although any without control, drug use, we found that is uniquely predictive These findings suggest control an important indicator severity episodes.
