摘要: Abstract: This chapter discusses anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects of basic algae components fucoxanthin, a specific carotenoid found in brown algae. The first reviews the water soluble lipid such as fatty acids, polyphenols fucosterol. It then unique activities fucoxanthin. Fucoxanthin induces uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) expression white adipose tissue (WAT). UCP1 can dissipate energy through oxidation acids heat production. Furthermore, fucoxanthin improves insulin resistance ameliorates blood glucose levels. Algae is beneficial compound for preventing metabolic syndrome.
