摘要: In what follows I argue that, with the transformation from elite to mass university systems, consumer role is ascendant, especially as higher education systems become more institutionally diverse, complex, inclusive and expansive. this environment, students their patrons (parents, governments, etc.) demand responsive flexible institutional forms, which some sociologists have argued reflects advent of an increasingly reflexive society. case universities, result social reflexivity inevitable blurring important boundaries, those between external internal values academic culture. context it not surprising that are directly exclusively focused on utilitarian value education, its a gateway occupational opportunities prestige. However, propose student consumerism need be threat communities, in public system like Canadas. particular, wise government policies concerning financing competition can help avoid crises emerging market-oriented United States.
