摘要: Tetracyclines are broad-spectrum antibiotics that interfere with protein synthesis. They were first widely prescribed by dermatologists in the early 1950s treatment of acne. More recently, their biological actions on inflammation, proteolysis, angiogenesis, apoptosis, metal chelation, ionophoresis, and bone metabolism studied. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) a family proteolytic enzymes degrade components extracellular matrix (ECM). MMPs have direct or indirect effects vascular endothelium relaxation/contraction system. The therapeutic tetracyclines analogues studied rosacea, bullous dermatoses, neutrophilic diseases, pyoderma gangrenosum, sarcoidosis, aortic aneurysms, cancer metastasis, periodontitis autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis scleroderma. In addition, downregulation MMP using doxycycline could be beneficial reducing dysfunction mediated progressive damage wall. We review nonantibiotic properties its potential clinical applications.
