摘要: The planned introduction of route guidance and information systems into vehicles is predicted to offer benefits both the individual user transport system as a whole, by expanding individuals' cognitive maps for an area, thus providing greater range choices from which select suitable course action. However, little known about effects additional upon mapping process: will it help or hinder acquisition maps? This paper describes experiment using video footage three routes through area provide standardised experimental environment researching spatial knowledge process. In order test that instructions might have this process one group sees only footage, while groups hear viewing routes. research also hypothesises inexperienced drivers not yet acquired skills necessary navigate effectively whilst controlling vehicle, leading errors stress consequently detrimental effect driving performance. hypothesis tested comparing ability newly qualified drivers, non experienced acquire videos (A) For covering abstract see IRRD 877041.
