摘要: Background: Thimerosal or merthiolate is used as an antiseptic and a preservative in topical medicaments, cosmetics, vaccines. known to cause delayed type hypersensitivity. However, there argument about the clinical relevance risk of using thimerosal-preserved products thimerosal allergic individuals. Objective: Retrospective review patch test results from Ramathibodi Hospital clinic determine prevalence reactions Thailand. Material Method: During 5-year period, was tested all patients for possible contact dermatitis. second most common allergen causing positive reaction. Results: Of 433 tested, 46 (10.62%) were thimerosal. despite high none clinically relevant their present dermatitis, reported vaccination cross-reaction piroxicam. Conclusion: There rate sensitization Thai patients, but little relevance. The author does not advise individuals avoid vaccination, although small local dermatitis should be pointed out. use containing antiseptics avoided.
