摘要: Botulinum toxin may cause a neuroparalytic illness that result in respiratory failure and require prolonged mechanical ventilation. As medical resources needed for supportive care of botulism bioterrorist event quickly overwhelm the local healthcare systems, biodefense research efforts have been directed towards development vaccine to prevent botulism. While human has caused only by serotypes A, B, E (rarely serotype F), all seven known immunologically distinct (A - G) potentially intoxication humans from event. A pentavalent (ABCDE) botulinum toxoid (PBT) administered as an investigation new drug (IND) at-risk individuals nearly 50 years. Due declining immunogenicity PBT, at both improved (less reactogenicity) toxoids recombinant vaccines potential candidates replace PBT.
