Region specific Raman spectroscopy analysis of the femoral head reveals that trabecular bone is unlikely to contribute to non-traumatic osteonecrosis.

摘要: Non-traumatic osteonecrosis (ON) of the femoral head is a common disease affecting young population as peak age diagnosis in 40 s. The natural history non-traumatic ON leads to collapse requiring prosthetic replacement 60% cases. Although trabecular bone involvement suspected, underlying modifications induced at molecular level have not been explored humans. Here, we examine changes composition and structure evaluated by Raman spectroscopy human end-stage ON. Comparing samples from heads harvested 11 patients cadaveric controls, show that mineral organic chemical modified apart age-related differences. We also necrotic part different remaining ‘healthy’ head. These findings support quality during despite extensive marrow necrosis osteocyte death observed even zones on histological examination.
