The Southern Ocean coastal Antarctica provide a variety of ecosystem services with benefits for humankind that are regional global importance. Despite being nearly uninhabited, increasing exploitation natural resources, growing human presence, environmental change threaten the sustained provisioning these services. Ecosystem service assessments have proven as suitable tool to understand relevance ecosystems well-being guide decision-making, but fluid transboundary nature marine poses challenges analyzing in regions large sections. New methods objectively assess supply such realms needed, this need is exemplified by Antarctic Peninsula region which encompasses rich marine, coastal, terrestrial faces impacts needs taking action. In study we applied matrix method, an expert-based approach employs tabular providing units (SPUs) elicit expert knowledge rate actual key from region. Further, tested applicability method on conventional definitions SPUs defined physico-chemical seascape subset Our results show high variations estimated region, both respect data models terms assessed While cultural regulating received highest estimates, were regarded less relevant experts' estimates much lower than bathymetrically regionalized areas. suggest more explicit elaboration linkages between functions processes required order tap full potential context qualitative, assessments.
