摘要: Humans benefit from marine systems in diverse ways. Advances assessing these “ecosystem services” have raised awareness of our dependence on them and their threatened status. We discuss the importance modeling ecosystem services to inform decisions, place efforts context coupled social–ecological systems, highlight unique aspects systems. explore a variety approaches mapping, modeling, valuing provide four examples approaches. Modeling helps society recognize benefits oceans coasts, appropriately value natural capital, make better choices about its use.
