摘要: Meta-analyses are a supplement to RCTs, which remain the gold standard for evaluating efficacy of therapeutic interventions, but need be supplemented by meta-analyses in order broaden applicability findings. can an important research tool systematic evaluation quality published studies and disciplined investigation reasons disagreements among reports. Overviews identify errors shortcomings completed may able explain why trial results differ. Since meta-analysis is technical statistical method, many clinicians find themselves unable appreciate its nuances limitations same way that they those traditional original report. However, readers medical literature familiar with definitions assumptions fixed- vs. random-effects analyses, as well meaning Q test statistic or other tests homogeneity because health-policy guidelines – recommendations patient management already being based, likely increasingly based future, on input from overviews. Meta-analysis has several potential uses when diagnostic accuracy laboratory investigated, it rather new field study needs refine tools establish credibility.
