摘要: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are toxic byproducts of mitochondrial energy production that inflict oxidative stress, a constant barrage damage to DNA, proteins, lipids, and other biologically important molecules. Oxidative stress has been implicated as pathologic mechanism in aging several diseases. We developed display apparent new markers human beings, the breath methylated alkane contour (BMAC). The BMAC is three-dimensional C4 C20 alkanes monomethylated breath, with x-axis = carbon chain length, z-axis methylation site, y-axis alveolar gradient (relative abundance minus relative room air). In 102 normal subjects 9 89 years age, gradients components increased significantly age. mean all varied from negative youngest quartile (ages 31 years) positive oldest 74 years)(P < 2.10(-9)). These findings were consistent an increase advancing although age-related decline clearance by cytochrome p450 may have contributed. provides potential applications research, clinical diagnosis, pharmacology, toxicology.
