摘要: BACKGROUND Knowledge of blood utilization can assist clinicians in directing patient management (PBM) initiatives and facilitate demand planning by services. We describe a national study red cell (RBC) England North Wales 2014. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS All hospitals that are supplied with components NHS Blood Transplant (NHSBT) were asked to provide data on the age sex all recipients transfusions RBCs, clinical indication for every unit transfused, two separate weeks 2014. Clinical categories derived from those used previous studies an English region. Completeness collection was checked against NHSBT issue wastage data. RESULTS Data 46,111 RBC units collected, representing 73% RBCs issued during surveyed. A total 67% transfused medical indication, 27 6% being surgical obstetric/gynecologic indications, respectively. For comparison, figures 2009, which this based, showed 64% patients. All but 20 could be ascribed broad heading, example, “gastrointestinal bleeding.” CONCLUSION Our findings confirm regional finding percentage patients is now much lower than suggest PBM should focus
