摘要: We tested whether predator odors could reduce winter browsing of woody plants by white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). Urine from bobcats (Lyra rufus) and coyotes (Canis latrans) significantly reduced Japanese yews (Taxus cuspidata), repellency was enhanced when urine reapplied weekly as a topical spray. cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus floridanus) humans did not damage, suggesting that do respond aversively to nonpredatory mammals or occasional predators with which they lack long evolutionary association. Bobcat coyote were more effective in tests conducted eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), is less palatable than yew. A dichloromethane extract bobcat unextracted reducing damage hemlocks. Testing the organic components urine, particularly volatile components, may enable identification compounds responsible for we observed.
