摘要: To assess the efficacy of ciprofloxacin in neutropenic patients, we conducted a randomized prospective trial comparing combination and netilmicin against piperacillin plus as an empiric treatment fever cancer patients with neutropenia. Of 214 evaluable episodes, 115 99 were randomly assigned to arms, respectively. The overall response rates very similar (59 62% for respectively). gram-positive bacteremias was almost identical (around 40%); this low due part outbreak infection by multiply resistant strain Staphylococcus epidermidis (for which MIC greater than or equal 128 micrograms/ml) occurred during second half trial. Among gram-negative bacteremias, 9 11 infections (82%) responded compared 3 7 (43%) that (P = 0.23). incidences persistent, profound neutropenia comparable both treatments, but susceptibility organism significantly higher other combination. Ciprofloxacin well tolerated, able convert from intravenous oral therapy 64 episodes.
