Liquid Crystals in the Mantles of Neutron Stars

摘要: Recent calculations indicate that in the outer parts of neutron stars nuclei are rod-like or slab-like, rather than roughly spherical. We consider elastic properties these phases, and argue they behave as liquid crystals, rigid solids. estimate constants discuss implications our results for star behavior.
