摘要: Subtotal thyroid resection or hemithyroidectomy was performed for hyperthyroidism on two groups of patients: 84 treated before surgery with antithyroid drugs and thyroxin 111 given only beta-blocking agents surgery. These patient were compared reference to preoperative medication, operation, immediate postoperative course, late results, follow-up 3 7 years. The advantages beta-blockers conventional medication lack adverse reactions, rapid effect treatment, considerably shortened treatment time, fewer outpatient visits, consequent financial benefit. No disadvantages found except that 18% the patients required additional propranolol in period. There no surgical complications either group other than a mild persistent hypocalcemia from beta-blocked group. serum thyrotropin levels during first 6 months significantly higher drugs. frequency dysfunction showed intergroup difference observation Signs hypofunction, necessitating supplementation, observed 28.6% drug/thyroxin 25.7% beta-blocker Toxic recurrence occurred 1.8% received 1.2% patients. study demonstrated beta-adrenoceptor blockade is safe method hyperthyroidism, regarding costs.
