摘要: : Concurrent cocaine and alcohol use is common practice in the general population, as indicated by recent prevalence studies. In presence of ethyl alcohol, metabolized to its homolog, cocaethylene. The transesterification ethanol cocaethylene takes place liver represents a novel metabolic reaction. Cocaethylene was detected postmortem blood, liver, neurological tissues concentrations equal sometimes exceeding those cocaine. vitro binding studies demonstrate that has pharmacological profile similar but not identical at monoamine transport sites assayed human brain. equipotent inhibiting [3H]mazindol dopamine transporter. blockade reuptake synaptic cleft may account for enhanced euphoria associated with combined abuse.
