摘要: Shifting patterns of land use in the United States are associated with many today's environmental concerns. Land-use shifts occur because relative changes rents, which determined part by financial returns commodity markets. In recent decades, more than 3 million ac shifted annually or out US forest use. Cross amounts land-use change an order magnitude larger net changes. Between 1982 and 1997, a amount 3.6 was added to nonfederal base. Area developed uses is projected increase about 70 2030, largest percentage diverted from forests. All regions show substantial increases area, population personal income as key drivers. Forest area decline two timber supply regions, South (-6.0 ac) Pacific Northwest Westside (-1.9 ac). Other having losses include Northeast (-3.0 ac), Lake (-1.2 Southwest (-0.6 Conditions markets reflect increased rents residential other land, such that forests forestland values will increasingly be influenced development its location.
