摘要: Nine plants available in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa were tested for antithrombotic and/or anticoagulant activity. Organic (methanol) and aqueous (distilled water) extractions performed on various plant parts. The thrombin assay clotting time assays (thrombin-induced CaCl2-induced) utilised. Several extracts displayed activity, but most cases this was due to presence tannins. Only activity after tannin removal. Sutherlandia frutescens leaf extract with an IC50 value 2.17 mg/ml. Gloriosa superba Zantedeschia aethiopica properties by inhibiting thrombin-induced clotting, values 2.97 3.05 mg/ml, respectively. Leonotis leonurus root found decrease CaCl2-induced 50% at 8.88 A accompanied a fibrin formation preferable CaCl2- induced assay, since decreased may have role prevention cancer metastasis. As tannins contribute minimally effect L. leonurus, cytotoxicity potential species against five cell lines determined. organic yielded significant cytotoxity.
