摘要: We assessed the effects of rotenone on aquatic invertebrate communities by comparing four prairie wetlands treated with to control sites. Data collected one week before and three weeks after treatment in fall 1998 were paired assess short-term effects, while data spring 1999 longer-term recovery rates. 14 taxa benthic invertebrates Ekman grab samples, 23 planktonic-nektonic water-column samples. Each set was analyzed separately redundancy analysis two habitats sampled. Significant detected water column abundance several taxonomic groups declined sharply treatment. The greatest declines observed zooplankton abundance; macroinvertebrates much less pronounced. Suppression short-lived, as significant no longer evident during May 1999. In contrast, effect taxa. Our results indicate that applications may briefly suppress plankton communities, but are short-lived. From a fisheries management perspective, minimize facilitate rapid recovery.
