摘要: Among other developed and developing nations, the United States is experiencing an unprecedented epidemic of prescription opioid misuse. The clearly continues to have significant widespread adverse effects on pediatric adult populations alike. Prescription opioids had single greatest impact emergency department visits, with visits increasing by 101% from 2001 2008, 86% increase in rates admission, injury 92%. This article provides readers overview epidemiology, history, basic science, advocacy interventions associated this public health calamity. It discusses increased susceptibility young children these drugs neonatal abstinence syndrome, withdrawal syndrome. A multifaceted approach will be needed contain problem including comprehensive prescriber patient education, expanded drug monitoring programs, protection against accidental ingestion, law enforcement efforts, stringent regulation oversight pharmaceutical companies.
