摘要: This study quantitatively documents the progressive development of sexual dimorphism vocal organs along ontogeny goitred gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa). The major, male-specific secondary features, anatomy in are an enlarged larynx and a marked laryngeal descent. These features appear to have evolved by selection may serve as model for similar events male humans. Sexual size position adult gazelles is more pronounced than humans, whereas neonate does not differ between sexes. examines 19 (11 male, 8 female) specimens across three age-classes, that is, neonates, subadults mature adults. postnatal ontogenetic up their respective end states takes considerably longer males females. Both sexes share same morphology but differences emerge course ontogeny, ultimately resulting apparatus main comprise size, fold length, tract mobility larynx. resilience thyrohyoid ligament pharynx, including soft palate, length changes during contraction relaxation extrinsic muscles play decisive role both substantially different degrees females males. Goitred born with undescended and, therefore, descent has develop ontogeny. might result from trade-off natural requiring temporal separation functions at birth shortly after those later life. J.
