摘要: Salivation to food cues is typically explained in terms of mere stimulus-response links. However, seem especially increase salivation when attractive, suggesting a more complex psychological process. Adopting grounded cognition perspective, we suggest that perceiving triggers simulations consuming it, attractive. These then induce salivation, which effectively prepares the body for eating food. In two experiments, systematically examined role on cues. As stimuli, both experiments used an neutral, and sour food, as well non-food control object. Experiment 1, participants were instructed simulate every object they would be exposed to. We them each separately. was assessed by having spit their saliva into cup after one minute exposure. 2, half object, merely look at them, while measuring 1. Afterwards, rated desire eat predicted, foods increased compared attractive or (Exp. 1 2). Importantly, findings consumption play important inducing salivary responses discuss directions future research other appetitive processes.
