摘要: Background Knowledge of regional-specific cardiovascular risk factors is mandatory to reduce the growing burden stroke and ischemic heart disease in Latin American populations. We conducted a population-based case–control study assess which are associated with occurrence vascular events natives/mestizos living rural coastal Ecuador. Methods assessed health (CVH) status presence metabolic syndrome all Atahualpa residents aged 40 years or more randomly selected healthy persons evaluate differences prevalence such between patients controls. Results A total 120 (24 with 96 matched controls) were included. poor CVH (according Heart Association) was found 87.5% case-patients 81.3% controls ( P = .464). The present same proportion (58.3%) Likewise, both sets (poor syndrome) equally prevalent among groups (58.3% versus 49%, = .501). Conclusions This suggests that none measured events. It possible some yet unmeasured an unknown genetic predisposition may account for sizable occurring native/mestizo population
