Feeding Stonehenge: cuisine and consumption at the Late Neolithic site of Durrington Walls

摘要: The discovery of Neolithic houses at Durrington Walls that are contemporary with the main construction phase Stonehenge raised questions as to their interrelationship. Was residence builders Stonehenge? Were activities there more significant than simply domestic subsistence? Using lipid residue analysis, this paper identifies preferential use certain pottery types for preparation particular food groups and differential consumption dairy meat products between monumental areas site. Supported by analysis faunal remains, results suggest seasonal feasting perhaps organised culinary unification a diverse community.
