摘要: Gonad indices for two species of Diadema and Echinothrix, including color morphs Echinothrix calamaris, are described a 12-month period on Sosoikula Reef Nukubuco Reef, Viti Levu, Fiji. Seasonal fluctuations in salinity (36.11±0.88 ppt) water temperature (26.35±0.91°C) occurred. index data showed monthly reproductive rhythms, closely attuned to the lunar cycle. savignyi diadema spawned full moon, setosum E. calamaris (white brown morphs) new moon. Breeding periodicities coincided with spring tides, thus maximizing chances fertilization dispersal. Such breeding cycles indicate how related can co-exist minimum risk hybridization. Unusual sex ratios were found all species, an exceptionally low incidence males. Reasons this deviation from typically reported 1:1 ratio may relate high levels tributyltin (TBT) recorded Suva Harbor.
