Mental retardation in ten-year-old children in relation to their mothers' employment during pregnancy

摘要: We conducted a case-control study to examine relationships between potential risk factors in women's prenatal occupational histories and subsequent mental retardation their 10-year-old children. Children with (intelligence quotient less than 71) were identified from special education records maintained by the public school systems metropolitan Atlanta area of various medical social service agencies serving children needs. Control chosen rosters 10-year-olds who enrolled regular classes local systems. To obtain histories, sociodemographic data, other information, we interviewed 352 natural mothers (67%) 525 case 408 (64%) 636 control computed odds ratios for each 25 selected occupation, industry, agent categories controlling maternal education, birth order, race. Most comparisons yielded that not indicative unusual risks, but did find lower expected risks among teachers health-care professionals. also found strong, positive association employment textile apparel industries.
