摘要: Many amphipod species occur in dense aggregations, cohabit with mating partners for long time periods, or live family groups. Although this confers ample opportunities social interactions among conspecifics, little is known about recognition patterns these species. Current research indicates that amphipods largely limited to mate and female-offspring recognition. In many species, the males are capable of assessing reproductive status/quality females choose mates accordingly. While some recognizing their own brood, other seem be indiscriminate towards unrelated embryos. Some observations, however, suggest kin within units even ranking conspecifics seems likely. Central-place foraging has not been reported families thus far, also potential fortress defense very limited. It appears higher level may have evolved amphipods, although we recognize a lack area. Given easy maintenance laboratory cultures technological advances video recording analysis, believe selected could ideal model organisms study evolution behavior.
