摘要: The response of cell division and elongation to low water potentials was studied in etiolated, intact soybean hypocotyls desiccated either by withholding from seedlings or subjecting pressure. Measurements hypocotyl potential osmotic indicated that desiccation resulted adjustment the so turgor remained almost constant. appeared involve transport solutes cotyledons permitted growth at which would have been strongly inhibitory had not occurred. Growth ultimately inhibited due inhibition a similar degree. result change minimum necessary for growth. On other hand, when were exposed pressure 3 h, did occur, decreased, sensitivity increased, presumably elongation. Thus, although sensitive hypocotyls, same more sensitive, depending on whether tissue adjusted osmotically. Osmotic may represent mechanism preserving germinating soil.
