摘要: Ocular exposure to influenza virus represents an alternate route of entry capable establishing a respiratory infection in mammals, but the effectiveness currently available antiviral treatments limit replication within ocular tissue or inhibit spread from sites tract is poorly understood. Using inoculation method that delivers aerosol inoculum exclusively surface, we demonstrate oral oseltamivir administration following ocular-only with multiple avian and human viruses protected ferrets fatal systemic infection, reduced clinical signs symptoms illness, decreased transmissibility susceptible contacts when was initiated. The presence further inhibited primary corneal epithelial cells. These findings provide critical experimental evidence supporting use neuraminidase inhibitors during outbreaks resulting disease exposure.
