摘要: PURPOSE: To verify the perception of Brazilian ophthalmologists regarding role played by Genetics in their routine medical activity and conduct when dealing with patients, hereditary diseases who need genetic counseling. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted means invitations to participate an interview on this subject. The questionnaires were sent 200 work area Campinas, SP, Brazil. RESULTS: Among 73 professionals answered questionnaire (36%), there a high rate positive answers (49-88%) concerning knowledge genetics low (10-33%) use clinical practice. frequency ophthalmopathies practice relevant opinion 68% interviewees; 92% indicated relationship between genetically determined ocular disorders prevention blindness through detection, early treatment More extensive considered indispensable 84% professionals, but 16% that it irrelevant. CONCLUSIONS: Although these have basic notions (88,0%) are aware its importance blindness, great majority not acquired adequate and, practice, rarely therapeutic preventive potential.
