摘要: Powder metallurgy tool steels are technologically well established, being employed in several applications. However, for certain situations, as the case of components submitted to severe wear, it is necessary enhance its surface properties. Among hardening techniques, ion nitriding has proven be a good candidate treating powder steels, since parts less susceptible distortions, can occur on other conventional treatments. The objective this work was verification effect vanadium and, consequently, wear behavior. alloys with different contents were nitrided at 550 °C 1, 3, and 5 h. layers characterized by microhardness test, optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron (SEM) energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), diffraction (XRD), pin-on-disk test. hardness values enhanced significantly after treatment, due formation VN. test revealed that enhancement resulted lesser mass loss compound layer VN γ′-Fe4N. treatment time did not influence shape size carbides present these steels.
