摘要: BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: MR spectroscopy is used to characterize biochemical components of normal and abnormal brain tissue. We sought evaluate common histologic findings in a diverse group nonneoplastic diseases patients with vivo spectroscopic profiles suggestive CNS neoplasm. METHODS: During 2-year period, 241 suspected neoplastic lesions detected on images were studied spectroscopy. Of these, five diagnosis identified retrospectively; sixth patient without tissue was added. consistent neoplasm included elevated choline decreased N-acetylaspartate creatine, or detectable mobile lipid lactate peaks. RESULTS: The specimens all for whom diagnoses available showed significant WBC infiltrates, both interstitial perivascular accumulations lymphocytes, macrophages, histiocytes, (in one case) plasma cells. Reactive astrogliosis also prominent most samples. This cellular immune response an integral component the underlying disorder these patients, including fulminant demyelination two human herpesvirus 6 encephalitis patient, organizing hematoma from small arteriovenous malformation inflammatory pseudotumor patient. Although no data considered unlikely basis ongoing clinical neuroradiologic improvement specific therapy. CONCLUSION: Nonneoplastic disease processes may elicit reactive proliferation elements system glial that associated indistinguishable neoplasms current techniques. Such false-positive substantiate need examination as standard reference intracranial mass lesions.
