摘要: Although the vast majority of vehicle drivers are sober, drunk driving remains to be a major contributor fatal accidents. Massive deployment unobtrusive breath alcohol sensing systems could potentially save tens thousands lives worldwide every year by preventing [1]. The work reported here is ultimately aiming at such system. technical performance present system with respect automotive requirements summarized, and new results towards determination within compartments presented. Breath concentration (BrAC) can determined unobtrusively if (i) provides real-time signals adequate accuracy corresponding local concentrations both tracer gas, e g CO2, (ii) dilution not excessive in relation background concentrations, (iii) sensor location seamlessly integrated into interior cabin. All three these aspects addressed paper. More than hundred prototypes based on infrared spectroscopy were fabricated subjected qualification tests full temperature range -40 … +85⁰C. In tests, was noted. Measures now being taken fill remaining gaps. Test human subjects positive accordance expectations physiological variations. In-vehicle showed that for best position, passive samples allowed BrAC resolution 2-4% US legal limit, providing proof-of-principle testing. Nevertheless, integration technological challenge objective large scale driver determination. feasibility vehicles, have been experimentally demonstrated. may advantageously also combined other technologies monitor impairment.
