摘要: The reductionist/holist debate is highly polarised. I propose an intermediate position of pragmatic holism. It derives from two claims: firstly, that irrespective whether all natural systems are theoretically reducible, for many it utterly impractical to attempt such a reduction, and secondly, regardless irreducible 'wholes’ exist, vain try prove this. This illuminates the along new lines by refocussing attention on underlying heuristics learning about world.
