Crystal structures and magnetic properties of magnetically frustrated systems BaLn2O4 and Ba3Ln4O9 (Ln = lanthanide)

摘要: The crystal structures and magnetic properties of the ternary oxides BaLn2O4 (Ln = Pr, Nd, Sm–Ho) Ba3Ln4O9 Dy–Lu) have been investigated. These two series compounds CaFe2O4-type structure with space group Pnma a perovskite-related R3, respectively. In both structures, Ln ions locally adopt triangle-based array, which has possibility resulting in geometrically frustrated magnet. From susceptibility measurements, it was found that some show anomaly at 2.2–4.0 K others are paramagnetic down to 1.8 K. results specific heat measurements these long-range antiferromagnetic ordering 1.7 (for BaNd2O4), 2.6 (BaGd2O4), 0.8 (BaHo2O4), 4.0 (Ba3Er4O9).
