摘要: A comprehensive biological understanding of nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) will be important to improve the functional stability wastewater treatment systems and reduce detrimental effects nitrification in agriculture. The first part this chapter provides an overview phylogenetic diversity distribution NOB environment engineered systems. Subsequently, focuses on ecophysiology ecological niche differentiation genera Nitrobacter Nitrospira. third addresses most recent insights into biology Nitrospira, which are based sequenced genome from genus. Future research should clarify whether strains indeed ecophysiologically different how their influences ecosystem functioning. also selected metabolic characteristics ‘’Candidatus Nitrospira defluvii’’ as derived genomic data. Nevertheless, microbial could by using environmental genomics approach that had been developed for sequencing uncultured anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing bacterium. Although phylogeny, might blurred past lateral gene transfer events, it is tempting speculate aerobic system was protein complex ancestor adapted life under hypoxic conditions. distant relationship between NxrA forms those Nitrococcus suggests use nitrite energy source invented more than once course bacterial evolution.
