摘要: The pineal gland is a naturally calcifying endocrine organ which secretes the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin. Age-related changes of have been observed, including decreased pinealocyte numbers, increased calcification, and reduction in melatonin production. Since fluoride attracted to calcium within gland, this study sought examine effects fluoride-free diet on morphology aged male rats (26 months old). All animals had previously raised standard fluoridated food drinking water. These control were compared other that placed ("fluoride flush") for 4 or 8 weeks. At weeks, glands from showed 96% increase supporting cell numbers at weeks 73% number pinealocytes animals. In contrast, cells given an initial 4-week flush followed by return water (1.2 ppm NaF) not different Our findings therefore demonstrate encouraged proliferation growth treatment inhibited growth. suggest dietary may be detrimental gland.
